Meet the Arts and Humanities Team

Dear Stinger Families,

On behalf of our Arts and Humanities team, I’d like to extend a warm WELCOME to our new families and a WELCOME BACK to those of you who are returning. I hope that your summer was filled with fun and relaxation and that you made a lot of wonderful memories with family & friends. It’s hard to believe school is starting, but, here we are, ready for a great year!  Things will look a lot different this year due to Covid 19 Pandemic.  While we would LOVE to see all of you in person, due to the Covid 19 Pandemic the Boone County School District is currently in a “Red” status.  Sadly, this means no in person instruction is possible at this time.

With the start of the 2020 – 2021 school year, the Arts and Humanities team wanted to share with all of you what is coming; All of the Arts and Humanities will use Google Classroom to support your online learning process. This platform has been mandated by the district for all Elementary Students.

Below you will find an introduction from our Arts and Humanities team. There will be one google classroom for all of the Arts and Humanities teachers to post assignments. This should make it easier for you to find your assignments and connect with your teachers. Your student(s) homeroom teacher will provide you with the A&H google classroom code within the first week of school beginning. That code will allow students to enter the correct google classroom for our team and complete the work assigned. Each week we new lessons will be uploaded on Mondays. Students will have designated time on Wednesdays to complete A&H lessons but may complete them at any time during the week. In each google classroom there will be a question and answer form under announcements. If you have any questions please open and complete that form. The A&H team will be checking the forms multiple times per day to answer any questions you may have about our assignments. If any additional technology programs are needed to complete a lesson, directions on how to use those programs will be included under announcements.

Don’t forget to check out our Stephens Elementary Facebook page for exciting news and updates. https://www.facebook.com/stephenselementaryschool/

Hi, I’m Melissa Huff, I’m your art teacher. 😊 I can’t wait to see & meet you.  This is my 5th year teaching Visual Arts at Stephens Elementary and my 20th year teaching art altogether.  Until I have the privilege of seeing you in person, I will be posting all of the Visual Arts assignments in Google classroom.  I have also made a Google slide presentation with directions on how to submit your art assignments.  I know this will be difficult, so you can use whatever supplies you have at home and feel free to be creative.

Welcome back, I’m Mrs. Houglan , the Physical Education teacher. I hope you and your child(ren) are ready to embark upon a fun, productive, and successful year in physical education.  This year will be full of new experiences which will hopefully enhance your child’s learning and interest in this field.  Though those experiences this year may come to you virtually or through health in a classroom setting they will still enhance learning.  Physical education is an important subject that your child can apply to their own life outside of the classroom, so it is essential that they learn and understand the important concepts encompassed within the subject.  Throughout the course of the year your child will have the opportunity to learn and perform locomotor, non-locomotor, manipulative skills, apply movement concepts, participate in dances, increase nutrition education and  knowledge as well as be introduced to health concepts such as, life skills, fitness components, hygiene, safety, mental and emotional health, family and social health, communicable and noncommunicable diseases and growth development. If/When we get to green status, our goal will be to expand upon team and individual sports skills and rules as well as develop in cooperative learning. My ultimate goal is for your child to learn strategies and skills that will help them become successful and lifelong learners in lifetime wellness, health and physical activity. I look forward to seeing our Stingers soon and can’t wait for us all to be back together under one roof! Be sure to check out my website for additional resources: jhuoglan2020.edublogs.org

Hello SES families!  My name is Mrs. Walton and I am part of the Arts and Humanities team.  I will be teaching World Language and Cultures.  We will be focusing on culture diversity, different languages with a focus on Spanish.  We will also compare different countries and continents using map skills and researching global regions.

Dear Stingers,
